As you might expect, space dyeing is out of this world but it’s not as scary as it first sounds… space dyeing is one of the terms used to describe wool (and other fibres) that has been dyed in a random colour pattern (the colours occupy different spaces).

In this class we will explore my two favourite methods for dyeing prefelts, both methods produce colour-ways that blend and merge with each other but one is more controllable while the other is great for anyone who loves surprises!

I will also share how I test out colour mixes before committing to using them on my precious wool.

The price of this class includes 1m x 1m of natural white, 21 micron merino needlepunch prefelt for you to cut and dye in your choice of colours.

I will have more prefelt and in different colours for sale on the day but please ask if you would like me to reserve a specific colour or quantity for you. You can see the full range of colours here.

This class is for adults and suitable for beginners.

When: 10am – 2pm, Saturday 3rd Aug 2024

Where: The Old School Building, Greenhithe, nr Auckland

Price: $80 per person

Please bring with you: 

• wear old clothes, dark colours / black are less likely to show if you get accidentally splashed with dye
• an old towel or two that you don’t mind getting stained
• a pair of medium to large sharp scissors, suitable for cutting fabric
• as many small, clean yoghurt pottles as you can collect (we will mix dyes in them)
• a plastic bag to take your damp felt and towels home in
• a waterproof apron if you have one (optional)
• your lunch and/or snacks (tea and coffee will be provided)
• I will provide Medium size nitrile gloves but if you need a different size, please bring some with you. Washing up gloves are fine but they are a bit thicker so make it a little more awkward to handle the equipment.

I will have a small selection of tools and materials available to purchase for class participants please, let me know at least 24 hours before the class if there is something you would like in my Etsy shop to receive a minimum 10% discount.
