This class is suitable for felt-makers who are comfortable felting over a resist (not suitable for beginners).
Together we will make a beautiful, but very practical project bag for your knitting / crochet and other crafts. The design of these bags is such that they make a convenient basket to work from when set on the floor or a table but by simply lifting the handles, the bag closes and becomes a comfortable shoulder bag.
We will use multiple resists to construct the bag and pockets. The shape and placement of the pockets will be discussed too. I will share how to make a long felted cord and attach it seamlessly to make a continuous loop after threading it through the eyelets in your bag.
When: 10am – 6pm, Saturday 1st June 2024
Where: The Old School Room, Greenhithe, nr Auckland
Price: $135 per person for Creative Fibre Members, plus a small fee ($12) for materials (wooden dowel, eyelets and wool if required)
Please bring with you:
- your usual felting equipment suitable for a resist approx 70cm square
- approx 1.5 m of resist material, I will have some for sale if you don’t have enough or large enough pieces
- if you would like to use your own wool fibre, you will need 200-300g of wool that makes a tight felt (Merino, Polwarth, Corriedale and Finn all work well) or I can provide 300g of Merino (solid colours) for $33 in your choice of colours. I recommend using wool tops for the rope handles, it is possible to use sliver but is a bit more fiddly to lay out
- three towels (2 tea towels or hand towel size), and a medium size towel (approx 1 metre long)
- a small to medium sized pair of sharp scissors, with at least one pointy blade that you can push through felt
- a plastic bag to take your damp felt and towels home in
- pencil and paper if you like to take notes
- a bamboo blind or ridged / textured mat (if you have one)
- a waterproof apron if you have one (optional)
- your lunch and/or snacks (tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided)
- any favourite felting tools you have (optional)
